Facts on Vitamins and Minerals

Australia and New Zealand both boast a wonderful food supply.  It is true that we can get all the vitamins and minerals we need for a healthy diet from the fabulous range of foods available today.

In recognition of the importance of essential nutrients to good health, Kellogg has been providing breakfast cereals with vitamins and minerals for decades.

In making breakfast cereals, grains are processed to improve digestibility and texture. When grains are milled, the hard outer layers are removed and this results in some loss of vitamins and minerals.

Vitamins and minerals are put back in cereals at levels greater than that lost in processing, a practice which aims to contribute to the nutritional adequacy of diets. Food regulations determine the type and quantities of vitamins and minerals that can be included in foods, including breakfast cereals. These regulations also prohibit the inclusion of vitamins and minerals to certain foods, including some grain based foods such as cereal bars and muesli bars.

Vitamins which are provided by some of Kellogg’s® breakfast cereals include vitamin B1 (thiamin), vitamin B2 (riboflavin), vitamin B3 (niacin), vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), vitamin C, Vitamin E and folate. Minerals which are provided by some of Kellogg’s® breakfast cereals included calcium, iron and zinc. Magnesium and phosphorus are naturally present in many breakfast cereals.
